La Jagua, Honduras
June 13-20, 2010
Who's it for?
Adults and youth interested in experiencing an international mission trip. Construction and painting skills, a medical background, or musical talent is helpful . . . but absolutely not necessary. A willingness to learn new skills and put them to use is just as helpful!
Where, exactly, is the team headed?
We'll be working in La Jagua, Honduras and surrounding areas. Located in the middle of Central America, Honduras is about the same size as Louisiana. The country’s population is approximately 6.5 million, with 42% under the age of 14 years. Honduras is the second poorest country in the Americas: According to government figures, 48.9% of the population lives on less than one dollar a day--what the United Nations characterizes as “extreme poverty.” The Honduras Methodist Mission is made up of 14 congregations in 7 different areas, each engaged in ministry with its community. The language spoken there is Spanish.
What will the team be doing?
The team will engage in some construction work, work on water purification projects, and offer basic medical assistance. (Please note that non-medical personnel are needed and encouraged to participate!)
What's the commitment?
Although the final cost of the trip will be affected by airfare costs at the time of booking, we expect the total cost to be approximately $1400. A non-refundable, $100 deposit will reserve your spot (first-come, first-served!) and the remaining fee will be due 90 days prior to departure. We will be hosting a team training prior to the trip.
What else do I need to know?
You'll learn all the nitty-gritty details at your required team training. At the training session, you'll receive information that will help you prepare physically (required vaccinations, packing lists, and so on) and mentally (information about the culture you'll be immersed in, what to expect from the trip, and so on).
I totally want to go! What should I do next?
-
- Complete our online registration form.
- Complete the Volunteers in Mission paperwork, available here. Your team leader will let you know which forms are necessary for your specific trip.
- Attend the required team training. We'll give you the date, time, and location of that session after you register.
